HSTP — Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. HSTP is a fully online, instructor-led program. Students meet live each week through our virtual classroom platform, where they receive real-time instruction, guidance, and support. This format makes the program accessible for students across the Twin Cities and surrounding communities while still providing an interactive, high-quality learning experience.
-
Our instructors are experienced technology professionals who currently work in IT, computer science, software development, or related fields. Each instructor has either a degree, certificate, or verified industry experience, and every candidate is carefully vetted by BDPA Twin Cities. We look for technical expertise and a demonstrated commitment to youth education, mentorship, and community impact.
-
HSTP runs for 16 weeks from February through May. Students meet once a week for live instruction, with optional practice assignments and project work in between sessions. This is not a self-paced program—the learning experience is guided by an instructor each week. However, students will have access to reference materials, example code, and supplemental resources to review on their own time.
-
Yes. Students who complete the program and meet participation requirements will receive a BDPA High School Technology Program Certificate of Completion. This certificate can be added to resumes, college applications, LinkedIn profiles, and scholarship materials. It also helps students qualify for future opportunities within BDPA, including the High School Computer Competition (HSCC) team.
