A First Step Into Python: Jayden’s Story
A tenth grader with no previous coding experience joined BDPA Twin Cities’ Python class to explore technology and what it might make possible for his future.
When Jayden joined BDPA Twin Cities’ Python class, he was trying coding for the first time. A tenth grader, he had no previous coding experience and had missed the first class. He came to session two ready to see what Python was all about.
His mom enrolled him because they were both excited to explore whether learning about technology might spark a new interest—and perhaps lead to a future career in information technology.
That first step matters. Young people can’t always picture themselves in technology careers before they’ve had a chance to explore what technology involves. A welcoming, hands-on learning experience can help open that door. It gives students room to discover new interests, build confidence, and consider paths they may not have thought about before.
BDPA Twin Cities offers technology education for young people, including Python programming for students in grades 7–12. Jayden’s experience reflects why access to these opportunities matters: students arrive with different levels of experience, and a first coding class can be the start of a new possibility.
Help expand access to technology education
BDPA Twin Cities is working to expand its services and reach more young people across the community. Corporate sponsors and community partners can help make that growth possible by supporting youth technology education and creating more opportunities for students to explore the field.
