High School Technology Program (HSTP)

HSCC Explained

The High School Coding Competition (HSCC) is BDPA Twin Cities’ advanced training and national competition program for high school students who demonstrate exceptional skill in programming and technology.

Each year, standout students from our High School Technology Program (HSTP) are selected to participate in an intensive training experience designed to prepare them for BDPA’s National High School Coding Competition, where students from chapters across the United States compete in a high-level programming challenge.

Through this program, students strengthen their skills in software development, teamwork, problem solving, and competitive coding, gaining experience that prepares them for college programs and future careers in information technology.

How Students Are Selected

From February through May, BDPA Twin Cities identifies five high-performing students from the High School Technology Program who show strong technical ability, leadership, and commitment to learning.

These students receive advanced coaching and preparation that includes:

  • Competitive programming exercises

  • Software development problem solving

  • Team collaboration and project design

  • Real-world coding challenges

During this training period, students work together to sharpen their skills and prepare for national-level competition.

National Representation

After completing the training program, one student is selected to represent BDPA Twin Cities at the national BDPA conference, where they compete against top high school programmers from across the country.

This prestigious opportunity allows students to:

  • Demonstrate advanced programming skills

  • Network with technology professionals and mentors

  • Compete in a national coding challenge

  • Represent Minnesota in a national technology competition

Students participating in HSCC gain valuable experience that strengthens college applications and prepares them for careers in computer science, software engineering, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other technology fields.

A Career Pathway

The High School Coding Competition is part of BDPA Twin Cities’ broader technology workforce development pipeline.

Students begin building foundational skills through the Youth Programmatic Thinking (Youth PT) program, advance to the High School Technology Program (HSTP), and top performers move on to the High School Coding Competition.

This structured pathway ensures students develop both technical skills and confidence, preparing them to succeed in the rapidly growing technology industry.
